KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded a surge in new Covid-19 cases after registering 369 infections in the last 24 hours.
This is 84 more cases compared with the figures on Tuesday (Aug 9).
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the drastic jump in cases was due to the growing positivity rate in the state.
He said the positivity rate on Wednesday (Aug 10) was 13.32% from the 3,034 samples, adding the rate was 11.35% from the 3,189 samples the day before.
“Daily caseloads are approaching the 400-mark with 369 new cases today,” he said.
“The higher the positivity rate, the faster the infections will spread and cause the number of new patients to grow,” he added.
Masidi said only three out of the 27 districts reported no cases while nine districts reported double-digit new infections, with Kota Kinabalu topping the list with 91 cases.
He said 363 of the 369 cases involved Category 1 and 2 patients, while Category 3 recorded two patients, Category 4 (three) and Category 5 (one).
