SINGAPORE: A couple has been charged with taking videos inside Police Cantonment Complex, a protected area under the Infrastructure Protection Act.
The videos were later uploaded on social media.
Siti Zulaika A Rahman, 33, was handed two charges on Tuesday (Aug 8). She is accused of taking two videos in the building together with Mohd Heirizal Kamarzaman, 41, on Jul 13 and Aug 1.
It is unclear why they were at the complex along 391 New Bridge Road, but Heirizal has another charge of injuring Siti with a heated hair straightener on Jun 19 this year.
Heirizal was charged earlier on Saturday (Aug 5) with one count of voluntarily causing hurt by a heated substance to Siti and one charge of taking a video without permission at Central Police Division on Aug 1.
The police said in a statement that police stations are declared as protected areas under the Infrastructure Protection Act.
It is thus an offence to take a photograph or to make any film or video recording of a police station without permission.
Siti, who was remanded and appeared in court via video-link on Tuesday, said she intended to plead guilty.
She was given a date to do so on Sep 22.
Heirizal is also remanded and will return to court later this month for a further mention of his case.
If convicted of taking a video in a protected place, they could be jailed for up to two years, fined up to S$20,000, or both.
The penalties for voluntarily causing hurt by a heated substance are a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, caning, or any combination of these punishments.
The police reminded the public to refrain from taking photos or filming at any protected areas without permission.
