On Monday ( 16 September ), corruption charges were dropped against a senior housing manager and construction firm director.
In September of last year, Liong Construction producer Liong Ah Chye and HDB manager Tan Siam Chua, 61, were each charged with one count of fraud.
On Monday, both gentlemen were granted a release amounting to conviction. They may therefore be charged once more with the same crime.
Mr. Liong was charged with conspiring to induce a fake statement in order to deceive the Housing Board.
Mr Liong’s doctors, Mr Tang Shangwei and Ms Dorcas Ong from WongPartnership, argued that the phrase given to HDB was “genuine and legitimate”.
According to the defense attorneys, Liong Construction was “ready and willing to perform the said job.”
In a speech released by Mr. Liong, he stated in  that he was glad that the situation had come to an end.
He continued,” The conviction has proven to me that I was right to contest the charges right away.”
” This is because I have always had a clear conscience, have not made any errors, and have never quoted in a misleading manner.”
I is then shut this chapter of my life and concentrate on my business with the trials solidly behind me.
” The prior year has been hard and I am thankful for my home, business colleagues, employees and professionals, who stood by me and my business during this time”.
