GEORGE TOWN: Police are looking for several suspects allegedly involved in a cable theft case in Ayer Hitam.
“On Nov 14, at about 1.30pm, we came across a video on social media showing the suspects fleeing in two vehicles after realising their act was spotted by Telekom Malaysia workers,” said George Town Acting OCPD Superintendent V.Saravanan in a statement.
Supt Saravanan said investigation found that the incident happened on Nov 13, after the telecommunication company workers lodged a police report at Bandar Baru police station.
Supt Saravanan said, the complainant had lodged the report after they found seven cables missing and another four cables were cut off and left on the road, during an inspection at the site.
He said according to the complainant, the loss incurred by the telecommunication company was estimated at about RM15,000.
The case was investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
“Those who have information on the incident can call the nearest police station or investigation officer Sergeant Mohd Syazwan md Sahimi at 04-2181 1831 to assist police investigation,” he said.
He said police have also advised the public not to disseminate video recordings related to the incident to prevent any speculation.
