KUALA LUMPUR: Police say they will complete their investigation of Sunday’s (Aug 14) Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) project protest as soon as possible.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said the probe is already underway under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
“We aim to complete it as soon as possible.
“Once it is completed, we will refer the matter to the deputy public prosecutor,” he told reporters after attending the “Sehari Bersama Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (YaPEIM) ” programme at city police headquarters on Tuesday (Aug 16).

Comm Azmi said police will take action against anyone who breaks the law.
“We hope society will continue to cooperate with the police and abide by the nation’s laws,” he said.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya, who also attended the event, said 13 people will be called up on Wednesday (Aug 17) in connection with the protest.
“We will record their statements,” he said.
According to an earlier statement by ACP Noor Dellhan, a group of about 60 people gathered in front of a shopping mall in the city on Sunday to protest against the LCS project.

Among them were PKR vice president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Pakatan Harapan Youth chief Howard Lee and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s Armada information chief Mohd Ashraf Mustaqim Badrul Munir.
On the YaPEIM event, Comm Azmi said KL police are honoured to cooperate with the foundation in helping the needy.
“We want to encourage the culture of donating to help the needy.
“We have collaborated with YaPEIM through various initiatives including the ‘Infaq Gaji’ scheme, where a portion of salaries are deducted to help those in need,” he said.
YaPEIM also presented donations to 16 police personnel during the ceremony.
