Contraband seized from stores in Samut Sakhon

SAMUT SAKHON- Leaders raided two outlets in Muang area and seized more than 16, 000 seized, unregulated Myanmar-made items, &nbsp, the Food and Drug Administration announced.

The assault came after a similar one last week in Bangkok that searched for contraband products.

FDA assistant secretary-general Weerachai Nolwachai said on Tuesday that FDA and heath leaders, assisted by officers, searched two shops in tambon Khok Kham on Monday and seized smuggled and unregulated foods products, medicines, cosmetics and medicinal products.

He said they seized 5, 530 food items with no Thai speech tagging, 2, 401 drugs, 5, 435 natural products and 810 decorative items at Jame store.

At Pramuan Kankha store, authorities seized 1, 302 diet products, 130 drugs, 386 natural products and 29 decorative items.

Possession and sale of contraband goods are punishable by fines of 5, 000 to 300,000 baht and/or jail sentences ranging from three months to three years.

Mr. Weerachai stated that the FDA would continue to check stores for illegal health products.
