Contraband foreign cigarettes seized in Sa Kaeo

Almost 39, 000 packs of contraband foreign cigs of various brands are actually seized from a canal-side on the Cambodian border in Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo.

These were found in 49 bags discovered by excise officials, border patrol police and troops from the Burapha job force alongside the canal behind Phan Suek border village on Wednesday.

There was no one nearby to place claim to the 38, 950 packs of cigarettes, which were in packages with the names from the intended receivers.

There were 3, 500 packets of IZA cigarettes, eighteen, 630 packets of Gold Seal, a few, 000 packets associated with Lapin, 1, 500 packets of Fine, 11, 320 bouts of Luxury, 500 packets of Cowboy and 1, 1000 packets of Ara.  

The untaxed smoking cigarettes were valued on 3. 5 mil baht, and bar tax due in 2 . 4 mil baht. The good to be levied totalled 36. 69 million baht, according to the Sa Kaew excise workplace Aranyaprathet branch.    

Sa Kaeo bar chief Sudjai Khonthat said they had received information that a delivery of cigarettes would be smuggled from Cambodia using a natural border bridging. Excise officials had been joined by troops and police within patrolling the area in which the contraband was anticipated to arrive.

Their efforts were rewarded with the biggest seizure of contraband foreign cigarettes produced in the province.

He believed they were purchased on the web. The parcels containing the cigarettes had been packed in Cambodia and were looking forward to delivery, he mentioned.

The investigation would be prolonged, he said.
