The upcoming Johor- Singapore Special Economic Zone ( SEZ ) and the Johor Bahru- Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS ) Link are among the “major game changers” that Mr. Wong described as “major game changers.”
He claimed that while Singapore and Malaysia are subject to a lot of harp on the socioeconomic conflict between them, both countries really complement one another, and that the greater competition is both regional and regional, and that the bigger conflict is between Singapore and Malaysia.
” In truth, we are more similar than we are unique. We are two states with enduring relations of society, connection and history. We are both working toward creating more egalitarian societies based on great management and cultural harmony, according to Mr. Wong.
ADDRESSING Excellent Problems
Both leaders vowed to address the bilateral problems involving water, air, and maritime territories.
Whatever differences we may have on these issues should not have an impact on how we handle the relationship as a whole, and certainly should n’t prevent us from exploring new areas of cooperation,” said Mr. Wong.
When asked if there was a timeframe established to address the issues, Mr Anwar quipped:” They should’ve resolved it yesterday”.
The Malaysian leader expressed his satisfaction that Mr. Wong appears to be as committed to enhancing relations and resolving issues as his predecessor, Mr. Lee, who Mr. Anwar described as” a great friend.”
” I think I look forward to a really healthy and strong relationship and connection to benefit both our countries,” said Mr. Anwar, and I am deeply impressed by his objective and determination to be very frank and open.
He said the last year has been “phenomenal”  , for the marriage and cooperation between both countries.  ,
And I think I understand this in a logical way:” Both Malaysia and Singapore may benefit enormously from having Singapore as a great friend and neighbor, and also the advantage of Singaporeans,” said Mr. Anwar.
Both sides may taking stock of the progress of the continuing discussions, according to Mr. Wong, while even looking at potential new ideas at the approaching Singapore- Malaysia Leaders ‘ Retreat, according to Mr. Wong.
Whatever the innovative ideas are, we may keep an open mind and we will discuss them in the right spirit to advance our marriage, he said.” We are open to hearing from Malaysia if there are ideas for the high-speed rail when well,” he said.
After numerous postponements at Malaysia’s ask and a potential breach of an arrangement in December 2020, the high-speed road project, which had the goal of reducing travel time between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to about 90 days, was abandoned.
