Continental Travel Singapore suspended from conducting travel agent activities

SINGAPORE: Ls Travel Singapore has been suspended from conducting travel agent activities to get five months from Tuesday (Jul 19), said the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

This particular follows Continental Travel’s appeal against the discover of intent to postpone its travel agent license for its suspected involvement in fraudulent  SingapoRediscovers voucher redemptions, stated STB in a press advisory.

“Continental Travel Singapore allegedly engaged in cashback agreements by partially refunding, in cash, the cost of the SingapoRediscovers voucher bookings made by several members of the public, ” the tourism board added.  

In September last year, the police  imprisoned three people linked to the traveling agency for their claimed involvement in the deceptive redemptions. Police research are ongoing, said STB.

“STB takes a serious view of errant journey agents and will not really hesitate to take essential action to protect the particular reputation of Singapore’s travel industry, including mentioning cases to the police, ” it additional.

The tourism board said in September last year that Continental Travel have been removed from the coupon scheme.  

The SingapoRediscover Vouchers scheme was released in December 2020 to back up local tourism companies hard hit by COVID-19 pandemic. Singaporeans aged 18 plus above received S$100 in vouchers, which may be used on staycations, appeal tickets and excursions.
