The beginning of a new runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport, scheduled for early next year, will result in compensation for owners of homes and other buildings that have been impacted by Airports of Thailand Plc’s plans to issue payment.

After the second runway’s opening, Bangkok City Council Chairman Surajit Phongsingwitthaya stated on Monday that the aircraft agency is still working out how many private properties and other types of buildings are eligible for compensation.

He continued, adding that the Pollution Control Department’s authorities are monitoring the level of noise in the affected areas.

After local people contacted City Hall with inquiries about the settlement process, it was being discussed by various organizations, including AoT, the Transportation Ministry, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration on Monday.

Financial and another payment details have not been disclosed to the general public.

On Suvarnabhumi’s eastern side, a third runway is constructed in horizontal to the first one. According to AoT, the first two planes will generally be used for takeoffs, while the second runway, which is four kilometers long and 60 meters wide, will be used for runway landings.

The committee chairman claims that the new runway’s start has been postponed until the beginning of 2025.

It may increase the ability of the aircraft, enabling it to manage 94 helicopters per hour, away from 68 at present.
