Commentary: Why we connected with image of man who cried at NDP

Whatever it was, Singaporeans connected with him immediately. Seeing Mr Color weep would have stirred up deep glare about our own tales and experiences.

Everyone has a story, and perhaps each of us saw a bit of our feelings expressed in the image of teary-eyed Mister Tan. It taken everything that had been composed and said regarding the past two years roughly given that COVID-19 hit the shores and brought existence to a standstill.

Emotions ran high as this year’s NDP show segment, titled The storyplot of Us , cut back poignant memories associated with what life has been before and after 2020, and exactly how we tried to return on our feet.

A friend of mine who was part of a task group responsible for COVID-19 testing messaged to say that she did not think it would affect her, but seeing the pandemic tales brought back “the exhaustion , the tears, the anxiety, the stress”.

And Mister Tan was spot on when he stated: “I thought it had been a story about everybody , every single Singaporean”.
