Phumtham Wechayachai, the head of defense minister, pledged on Tuesday that commanders of military units who are found to have abused conscripts may also face disciplinary consequence for acting inadvertently.
Mr. Phumtham made his point yesterday while visiting a soldier variety and selection system at the Directorate of Joint Communications in Bangkok’s Don Muang area.
He claimed to have discussed with military officials the speed of incidents involving high-ranking military officers and trainers physically and emotionally abusing conscripts.
Some soldiers expressed dissatisfaction with being hired as servants for senior officers ‘ homes and endured abuse it.
