Comedy club case: Siti Nuramira expected to be charged in Syariah Court

PETALING JAYA: The woman seen in video footage of a controversial stand-up comedy act is usually expected to be charged with insulting Islam at the Syariah Court.

Deputy Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said Siti Nuramira Abdullah, twenty six, was expected to end up being charged in the Kuala Lumpur Syariah soon.

“The govt will not compromise on any actions that insult religion and threaten the tranquility and unity of the people. Action is going to be taken based on the law, ” he told Malay language news portal Sinar Harian on Thursday (July 14).

On Wednesday (July 13), Nuramira pleaded simple to a charge associated with insulting Islam simply by admitting she is Muslim and memorised 15 juz of the Quran before discarding the girl tudung and baju kurung at the Crackhouse Comedy Club cafe in Taman Realisieren Dr Ismail upon June 4.

Nuramira was billed under Section 298A of the Penal Code with causing disharmony, disunity, or emotions of enmity, hatred or ill will, or prejudicing the particular maintenance of harmony or even unity, on reasons of religion.

She is facing a maximum of five years imprisonment upon conviction.
