A retired captain and a physician have been detained by the police at the Veterans General Hospital for allegedly eying money from people who have overpaid them, making about 80 million baht worth of medications.
Early on Wednesday night, officers conducted raids on 17 areas in Bangkok, Chon Buri, Lop Buri, and Prachin Buri, and the two girls were taken into custody.
According to a source with knowledge, authorities detained Dr. Barinda Ujawathee and Col. Kanyarat Jitprasong, 59, at their properties in Bangkok and along Lat Phrao 71 Road.
Both of the women were employed by the Veterans General Hospital. Prior to moving to the soldiers medical, Col. Kanyarat had resigned from Phramongkutklao Hospital.
According to allegations, Col Kanyarat organized visits to Dr. Barinda’s Veterans General Hospital for Lop Buri residents.
Dr. Barinda reportedly misdiagnosed their condition and put forth increased treatment. Before being resold at pharmacy in different regions, the supplied medication was stored in a washing store on Rama IV Road in Bangkok.
Gen Detnitit Luangngamkum, Thailand’s director-general, had previously complained to the authorities about health fraud, which he claimed had started in 2018.
Around 40 million baht of damages were reportedly transferred into records held by Col Kanyarat, according to estimates of the injury at 80 million ringgit.
