Cold climes on radar for two weeks

The temperatures, especially in lower Thailand, is predicted to fall slightly until Dec 27 as a new high-pressure region is spreading into the lower part of the country, while the South is being warned to prepare for more weather, the Thai Meteorological Department ( TMD) said.

At the beginning of this fresh warm spell, from yesterday till Monday, weather is expected in the lower part of the Northeast, the East, and Central areas, including Bangkok and its surrounding counties.

This is because the cool air is expected to congeal with an “easterly wave,” an atmospheric basin that typically results in cloudy, thunderstorm-heavy areas, the ministry said yesterday.

From monday, most parts of middle Thailand will finally experience colder and drier conditions without weather, especially in hill areas, which may last until after Christmas, said the TMD.

For example, Ang Khang Royal Agricultural Station in the Fang city of Chiang Mai recorded a temperature of 8.4C.

The South, from Prachuap Khiri Khan upward, did, during the same time, have less rain and still needing to make for strong winds and high water waves, the division added.

From monday until Monday, the heat is forecast to fall by 4 to 8C in the Northeast and by 2 to 5C in the North, the East and Central locations, including Bangkok and the cities.

In related news, the Department of Disease Control ( DDC ) is warning of a possible uptick in cases of respiratory diseases, especially influenza.

From Jan 1 until Nov 30, Thailand recorded 630, 786 circumstances of the virus, including 47 murders, said Dr Panumas Yannawetsakul, director-general of the DDC.
