City mulls ‘integrated’ bus terminal

New blog to ensure smooth connection

In an effort to maintain a smooth relationship for travelers with the state’s mass transportation system, the Transport Ministry is considering moving the city’s inter-provincial bus stations to Krungthep Aphiwat Central Terminal.

Suriya Jungrungreangkit, the minister of transport, told the Policy Monitoring Committee that he had informed the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy Planning ( OTP ) that it was considering whether to combine all of the state-owned Transport Company’s bus terminals with the newly constructed central terminal.

The plan, if approved, will affect three major terminals: Bangkok Bus Terminal ( Mo Chit 2 ) in Chatuchak district, which offers services to the North and Northeast, Ekkamai Bus Terminal in Klong Toey district, which covers the eastern provinces, and the New Southern Bus Terminal in Taling Chan district. According to Mr. Suriya, the OTP will examine the effects of the planned walk on both customers control and travel.

He claimed that the move would transform the northern switch into a megahub for travelers, allowing them to travel through various modes of transportation.

The transportation secretary cited Hakata Station in Fukuoka as an example of a multi-level transportation hub where road travelers are able to quickly connect with buses from nearby neighborhoods.

” We believe the combination of the city’s bus stations to one site does improve the efficiency of our public transportation companies, making it more convenient, faster and safer for people”, he said.

The company plans to finalize the principle within the next four months, according to OTP director-general Panya Chupanich.

In the meantime, the OTP may request a resources to hire professionals to carry out the viability review, which may take at least 12 months.

He claimed that the new vehicle switch will have a multi-level structure, related to Hakata Station, with each ground serving as a departure point for goods traveling through various areas.

The roar surface area, however, will function as an interchange for several buses operated by the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority. Additionally, there will be a waiting place for cars and ride-hailing service.

The best ground, however, will be turned into a business area featuring restaurants, coffee shops and souvenir shops.

He claimed that the revenue from the commercial spaces can be used to pay for maintenance of the passenger terminal.
