Actress Christina Ricci grew up in Hollywood and learned many life lessons from her many other celebrities, including, the girl says, what homosexuality was.
Speaking with Andy Cohen designed for his SiriusXM display, the “Yellowjackets” actress said Johnny Depp explained homosexuality to her “in the simplest terms” during a phone call when she was filming “Mermaids” with Cher and Depp’s then-girlfriend Winona Ryder.
“There was something going on set plus someone was not getting nice to somebody else. And they were like, ‘Oh, well, he might be homophobic. ’ And then I was such as, ‘Well, I don’t understand what that is, ’” Ricci recalled in the interview. “And I was within Winona’s trailer and he or she was like, ‘I don’t know how (to explain). ’ So the lady put me in the phone with Johnny, and Johnny explained it to me. ”
Ricci said she has been 9 years old during the time and that Depp described the term to her “very matter-of-factly. ”
“He was like, ‘It’s every time a man wants to have sexual intercourse with a man and when a woman wants to have sex with a woman, ’” Ricci said. “And I was like, ‘Ah, okay, ’”
Cohen joked that he did not know why Ryder enlisted Depp’s assist “when you’ve got Cher in the next trailer. ”
Ricci laughed. “I know, we should have run right more than there. ”
“Yellowjackets” has been nominated for seven Emmy Awards last month, including best theatre. Ricci was also nominated for outstanding helping actress In a drama series.
