An Asian man who killed former professional surfer Chris Davidson has received a five-year jail sentence.
Grant Coleman, 43, punched the 45- year- ancient outside a cafe north of Sydney in 2022, causing him to hit his mind.
Because Davidson had a child sex offender, Mr. Coleman claimed he attacked him to guard the neighborhood.
Judge Peter McGrath criticized Mr. Coleman for” taking the law into his own arms.”
” He was judge and jury of Mr Davidson. Cruelly, Mr Coleman likewise became Mr Davidson’s executioner”, he said, according to the Australian Associated Press, which even reported that Davidson had been convicted of disrespectfully assaulting a 15- year- older girl in 2017.
Mr McGrath added that Mr Coleman had developed a “fixation” with Davidson, because to his “knowledge and idea” he was a “repeat offender” of “young women”.
And that in the guide up to the assault, he had called Davidson a “paedophile” many times, after seeing him view a 19- year- older girl at the bar.
In August, the 43-year-old admitted guilt to charges of assault causing dying and frequent abuse.
Receiving his word on Friday, he said he was “haunted” by his violence.
” ] When ] I realised what I’d done. I wanted him to light up, to restore consciousness”, he told the district court, the ABC reported.
Davidson first gained notoriety in 1996 when he reportedly defeated surfing star Kelly Slater in two straight heat as a crazy card entrance into the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach in Australia. Mr. Slater paid tribute to the former gymnast as “one of the most obviously gifted surfing” he actually knew after his passing.
His family described the destruction his death had caused in a victim impact statement next month.
His sister claimed that he was taken by a human shark despite always being attacked by a shark in his life while surfing.
” We can never forget and forgive, and this event should never have occurred,” he said.
