China’s Shenzhen to adopt tiered COVID-19 measures on Monday

BEIJING/SHANGHAI: China’s southern tech hub of Shenzhen, which went into a weekend lockdown upon Saturday (Sep 3) for mass COVID-19 testing, said it can adopt tiered anti-virus restriction measures beginning on Monday.

The city furthermore announced a new round of COVID-19 tests, vowing to “marshal all available sources, mobilise all forces, and take all possible measures” in order to stamp out the pandemic, after Shenzhen reported 89 new locally transmitted COVID infections for Sep 3, compared with 87 a day earlier.

“Currently, the city’s COVID situation will be severe and complicated. The number of new infections continues to be relatively high plus community transmission danger still exists, inch Lin Hancheng, a Shenzhen public wellness official, told a news conference past due on Sunday.

Based on the results of the particular weekend testing, Shenzhen will classify the areas into three categories, reflecting lower, medium, and high-risk of infection, Lin said.

In areas deemed low risk, the city will remove restrictions that confined much of the population to home compounds over the weekend, even though lockdowns will remain in position in ‘high’ and ‘medium’ risk neighbourhoods.

In locations where infections were found, temporary restrictions will be prolonged for three days.

Major zones of Futian, Nanshan and Longhua stated that entertainment centres like cinemas and KTVS would remain closed, and restaurants will allow dining in from half capacity.

The Nanyuan neighbourhood of the Futian Area will continue to be treated being a medium-risk area due to the relatively high number of positive cases recognized, Lin said.
