China warns proposed TikTok ban will ‘come back to bite’ US

Beijing warned on Wednesday ( Mar 13 ) that the Chinese government would “inevitably come back to bite the United States” if a proposed ban on the video-sharing app TikTok was implemented.

A bill that would force the app’s Foreign owner to cut ties to the US House of Representatives or be banned in the US is scheduled to go up for vote later on Wednesday.

The video-sharing app has soared to a high level of popularity worldwide, but the regulations poses the biggest threat to it to date. It has raised concerns among governments and security officials over its ownership by China and possible subservience to the Communist Party in Beijing.

Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for the foreign ministry, criticized the proposed restrictions prior to the ballot.

The United States has not stopped suppressing TikTok, he said, “even though it has not found any evidence that TikTok threatens US national safety.”

” This kind of bullying behavior that cannot win in fair competition disrupts companies ‘ normal business activities, damages the confidence of international investors in the investment environment, and damages the normal international economic and trade order,” he continued.

” In the end, this may eventually come back to bite the United States itself”, Wang said.
