In a joint statement released on Monday ( May 6), several state agencies advised China to increase the number of intensive care units ( ICU) beds over the next few years as part of its public health measures.
The second-largest nation in the world has steadily increased Patient beds over the years, but critics claim the country’s health system is still understaffed and greatly stretched after officials instantly lifted national COVID pandemic restrictions in late 2022.
China had just 4.37 Patient beds per 100, 000 people in 2021, compared with 34.2 in the United States as of 2015, according to a report by Shanghai’s Fudan School of Public Health.
ICU beds globally should achieve 15 per 100, 000 persons by the end of 2025 and 18 per 100, 000 by the end of 2027, the National Health Commission and different state authorities said in a request.
Additionally, according to the proposal, 10 hospital beds may be converted to ICU beds by 2025 and 12 by 2027.
