China air force, referring to Taiwan, says it can safeguard ‘territorial integrity’

BEIJING: China can “resolutely safeguard nationwide sovereignty and territorial integrity”, an air force spokesman said on Sunday (Jul 31), referring to Taiwan, as tensions rise within the self-ruled island .

Air flow force spokesman Shen Jinke was cited by state press as saying in a military airshow that the air force has its own types of fighter jets capable of circling “the precious island of our motherland”.

US House of Associates Speaker Nancy Pelosi, number three within the line of presidential sequence, signalled on Fri she was embarking on a trip to Asia. She did not mention Taiwan, but speculation of a visit there’s intensified in current days, fuelling tensions beyond the Taiwan Strait.

Beijing claims democratically dominated Taiwan as a Chinese province.

Chinese President Xi Jinping warned his US counterpart Joe Biden on Thursday that will Washington should comply with the one-China concept and “those exactly who play with fire will perish by it”.

Shen stated on Sunday: “The air force has the firm will, full confidence and adequate capability to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity. ”

White House national security spokesperson Sara Kirby said upon Friday the United States offers seen no evidence of looming Chinese military activity against Taiwan.
