The Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) provides pressed charges against the owner of Daruma Sushi and his company in a fraud case that affected almost 1, 000 recognized victims.

Pol Lt Col Parinya Pala, deputy superintendent of the CPPD, yesterday filed the particular cases with community prosecutors at the Office of the Attorney-General to press charges against Daruma Sushi Co as well as owner, Metha Chalingsuk, 39.

Pol Lt Col Parinya said the particular Royal Thai Law enforcement (RTP) assigned the particular CPPD in June to investigate Daruma Sushi, a popular Japanese buffet restaurant chain, following accusations of fraud.

Police gathered more than forty seven files with fifteen, 000 pages associated with documents on the case.

Itthiporn Kaewthip, director-general of the Office of Criminal Prosecution and a spokesman of the Office from the Attorney-General, said the charges are public fraud, computer criminal offenses, money laundering and fake advertising.

Mr Itthiporn said that 999 supposed victims lodged issues with the police. The estimated damage attributed to the alleged fraud is about 42 million baht but that does not include some 129, 000 vouchers highly valued at about 28 mil baht purchased simply by 33, 002 clients, he said.

Police officers plus public prosecutors are gathering evidence to present to the attorney common to file legal procedures before Mr Metha’s release from detention on Sept 14.

Daruma Sushi Co has been registered on Jan 12, 2016, along with registered capital of 5 million baht. The restaurant has been highly popular, especially for its cheap trout sashimi and the chain expanded to twenty-seven branches.

In January, the business announced on Facebook it was selling 199-baht vouchers for its Western buffet which was generally priced at 490 baht. The promotion attracted many buyers. However in June, the company and everything outlets were shut.

Mister Metha flew towards the United States before time for Thailand a week afterwards and arrested by police at Suvarnabhumi airport.
