Chairs made from used carpets? How a Singapore company is trying to make concerts and events more sustainable

HOW CARPETS BECOME CHAIRS

The Mill International’s floors can be used three to four times depending on their width, before becoming worn and sent for recycling later.

Second, workers must clean the carpets of all dirt and any metal that has been attached to them. &nbsp,

On page, contaminated parts with food spots or fluids are disposed of. Cleaning is certainly a viable alternative because floors are prone to bacteria and mold.

When items are determined appropriate for recycling, they are then kept in The Mill International’s storehouse until they have enough material to ship to Ravago. &nbsp,

That, rugs are fed into a machine and processed into polymer grains. &nbsp,

These are shipped to the lover factory in China, where seats are produced in bulk using injection molding. &nbsp,

By the first fourth of the following year, The Mill International hopes to get its first shipment of 300 recovered polypropylene chairs, which are made of an estimated 6 kilos of resin pellets.

Each seat costs about US$ 35 to create, including shipping.

The Mill’s standard carpet hire service for activities is being planned, along with head rental.

However, they are sellable, and some event planners have already expressed an interest in replacing their existing products with The Mill’s carpet-origin chairs, according to Mr. Cheung.

” There’s a huge buzz about making ( event ) booths from sustainable material… However, we still don’t see tile as a priority, which is quite amazing because it visually enhances an event right away,” said Mr. Cheung. &nbsp,

” A popular way to solve mats being unsustainable is that you don’t apply rugs at all, and that’s what we realised there’s a pattern today”, he added.

However, we are hoping more people are aware of this floor recycling initiative and that the carpets you employ aren’t just going to be thrown away.
