According to an aide to the city governor, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration ( BMA ) and the Central Investigation Bureau ( CIB ) will link their CCTV systems in a bid to improve public safety during the Songkran festival.
Speaking after a conference with CIB authorities, Pol Gen Adit Ngamjitsuksri, an assistant to Bangkok government Chadchart Sittipunt, said the BMA developed the information system last year to track important locations where Songkran activities were held, such as Bang Lamphu, Sanam Luang, and Ratchadamnoen Avenue.
However, the technique experienced some functional issues, and the BMA made the decision to turn to CIB assistance to improve health and improve tourist confidence, he noted.
Bangkok was chosen as the captain place for the program because of its broad security camera system, with Khao San Road and nearby areas serving as a” playground” during the Songkran festival, he said, noting that the program is also in line with the prime minister’s directive for the creation of a National CCTV Center.
Pol Col Chananat Sarnthavanpas, a top CIB official, said the CIB’s collection and operations method was fully support the BMA’s health measures during the Songkran vacation.
He added that because the BMA and CIB’s systems are designed for various reasons and that more devices might be required in some of the most crowded places, Pol Gen Adit also suggested that camera angles might need to be adjusted during the event.
A working team will be set up to oversee technical details, with Khao San Road and surrounding areas chosen for the programme, he said, adding that if successful, this model could be expanded to other locations.
