Cabinet nod to protect coastal areas

The government has approved three governmental messages regarding environmental protection plans for the three Andaman coastal regions of Phangnga, Krabi, and Ranong.

Pol Gen Phatcharavat Wongsuwan, the deputy prime minister, and the secretary of natural resources and environment, said on Wednesday that his ministry’s two notifications had been approved.

The messages problem measures to protect the environment in the towns of Khura Buri, Takua Pa, Thai Muang, Thap Put, Takua Thung, Koh Yao and Muang in Phangnga and the towns of Ao Luk, Nua Khlong, Khlong Thom, Koh Lanta and Muang in Krabi.

According to Pol Gen Phatcharavat,” the measures will prevent actions that are detrimental to nearby ecosystems.”

They may require local factories to have the tools and equipment to control pollution and address economic issues, he said.

Additionally, companies will be required to permit at least 50 % of their property to be able to hold water, with 50 % of those places made up of green space. He said that the building peaks of factories that are 100 m from traditional sites will also be restricted.

According to Pol Gen Phatcharavat, the cabinet meeting even approved a further warning from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment regarding measures to safeguard marine and coastal tools in the Mu Ko Phayam Islands ‘ Muang area.

The measures may prevent people in the area from leaving litter, releasing waste, snorkelling and diving, feeding marine creatures, fish, recovering area and dropping anchors into the ocean.
