The Transport Ministry has ordered the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand ( CAAT ) to address the issue of expensive airfares during long weekends and holiday periods to prepare for the Songkran festival in April.

Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit said on Tuesday that he also instructed the CAAT to create long-term cost control measures to maintain tickets at a suitable roof while prioritising rewards for people.

In response, the CAAT announced it would work to control the influx of visitors during Songkran when weather customers into and out of the state is expected to boom.

People may buy tickets in advance to evade paying higher rates closer to the event, it added.

Mr Suriya issued a similar heat ticket cost control purchase prior to the New Year vacations. He said more chairs were being made accessible on planes during the peak vacation time in the hope of bringing down charges.

The order may reduce costs and increase tourism progress, Mr Suriya added.

According to the government, at least 70,000 more tickets were offered for sale from Dec 26 to Jan 5, which lowered ticket rates.

Customers paid about 2,415 ringgit on average for a flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, lower than the average cost of 2,729 baht for a one-way seat on the same way the past year, the ministry said.

Also, flights from Bangkok to Phuket were over to 2,787 ringgit on average, compared to 2,895 ringgit one year earlier, said Mr Suriya.

The department reported a 6. 5 % increase in domestic flights during the New Year holidays, contributing to a more than 10 % increase in the number of passengers on domestic flights.

Mr Suriya said the government’s tourism industry is obviously in a healing phase, with private air journey higher than last year.

The rise in home travellers is also expected to commerce advertising measures, he added.
