Busan airport: South Korea plane fire causes mass evacuation

All 176 passengers on board an Airbus planes were forced to leave Busan airport in South Korea, according to fire officials.

On Tuesday night, they claim four people were hurt as they flew out of the Air Busan plane on expandable slides in the south-eastern airport.

The fire is said to have started at the neck of the Hong Kong-bound aircraft just before takeoff. Firefighters who arrived within hours were seen attempting to extinguish the flame that had spread to the aircraft.

A Jeju Air helicopter crashed-landed in the south-western Muan airport on May 1st, which was the worst air accident ever to occur on South Korean soil. 179 people were killed when the plane crashed-landed in the airport. Two persons survived.

The fire on board the Air Busan plane Gimhae International Airport began at about 22: 26 local time ( 13: 26 GMT ) on Tuesday, Yonhap news agency said, citing South Korea’s fire authorities.

It claimed that rescuers arrived at the scene eight days later.

Eventually, images emerged of the aircraft’s water-draining.

On board the plane were 169 travellers and seven members of the crew.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Air Busan is a budget airline, whose parent firm is Asiana Airlines.

Busan’s airport is located about 315km ( 195 miles ) south-east of the capital, Seoul.
