An 83-year-old woman sustained severe injuries after she was hit by a public bus on a zebra crossing in Dusit district yesterday, police said yesterday.
According to Pol Maj Wichai Meekhwan, inspector at Samsen police station, the victim, identified as Yupin Hayakul, was hit by a 66 bus in front of a gold shop near at Sri Yan intersection yesterday morning.
The victim had just left her home to buy some food for her grandson, who is suffering from cancer, when she was hit by the bus on the zebra crossing.
Ms Yupin was taken to Vajira Hospital.
Both her legs were broken, and she sustained severe internal injuries.
The driver told police he had to turn left at the intersection, as the road ahead was closed for repairs.
The diversion, which he was unaccustomed to, caused the accident, the driver said.
No one has yet faced charges in relation to the accident, said Pol Maj Wichai, adding the police have to wait for the results of the investigation to come out first.
