A secondary bill that seeks to increase the president’s digital wallet handout scheme by 122 billion ringgit passed its first studying in the House of Representatives late on Wednesday.

A full of 297 Lawmakers voted in favour of the act, while 164 voted against it, without any nays.

Opposition parties claimed that the bill violated the State Fiscal and Financial Discipline Act and did vote against it at the following hearing.

Prior to the ballot on Wednesday, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin addressed MPs in the House and stated that boosting the country’s economy by 122 billion baht is essential.

According to Mr. Srettha, extra funding is required to increase regional economic activity, maintain consumption levels, and open up new business opportunities.

In an effort to quicken the release of its digital wallet flyer program, the government decided to push for a 122-billion-baht funds increase in light of the state of the economy at the moment and the budgetary constraints for the 2024 fiscal year.
