Bridge sought after boy dies

The home of an 11-year-old child killed at a pedestrian passing in Sa Kaeo are urging authorities to establish a pedestrian bridge to improve safety.

The tragedy took place at 10.45am on Tuesday when a car hit the boy, identified only as Nong Dan and Pornchai, a 50-year-old male, as they were crossing the road with people at a pedestrian passing in front of Sa Kaeo Crown Prince Hospital in Muang area.

Both were severely wounded. Nong Dan eventually died of his wounds, while Mr Pornchai remains under close study in the ICU.

Following the incident, the community and local area have urged officials to improve motorist protection by constructing a pedestrian gate in the area, which houses many important offices.

Authorities said the driver was charged with reckless driving causing dying and she could face additional charges.

According to witnesses, another cars had slowed down to quit for the commuters to cross but the vehicle that hit the survivors approached at high velocity and didn’t stop, striking two of them.

Last month in Bangkok, a bicycle hit a 68-year-old North Korean holiday at a motorist passing outside the Kidney Institute Hospital on Phaya Thai Road in Ratchathewi area.

It was the same pedestrian passing where an optician was killed by a motorist while crossing the street two years earlier.

In another event, a student using a pedestrian crossing outside a class in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon city was injured when a vehicle ran a red light.
