A prosecutor has exposed a group with police connections that reportedly collects bribes and reportedly robs 100 million baht of kickbacks each month.
Sittra Biabungkerd, minister to the Women’s Doctors Foundation, held a press event on Tuesday at which he presented “evidence” that included money roads, bank transfer slip and video images.
The group is linked to at least three officers officials, Mr Sittra said.
He claimed that some police departments had gotten kickbacks from a number of unlawful businesses, including unlawful loan sharks and illegitimate online gambling sites.
Mr. Sittra asserted that the gang would transfer payments from various bank accounts, including those held by senior police officers ‘ friends.
The payments are estimated to be more than 100 million ringgit per quarter, he said.
There was no hidden justification for Mr. Sittra’s claim that he had not been paid to highlight the alleged bribe-taking.
Despite knowing that I may be in danger, he said,” I only want to inform the people about the situation.”
Mr. Sittra also spoke with Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat Pankaew, the assistant commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, over the telephone during the media event. On Thursday, Mr. Sittra promised to report to the police any gang-related offences.
