A group of alleged insurgents attacked two surveillance troops in two districts of this southern frontier province late on Wednesday evening, killing a border police officer.
Around 11.45pm, an unknown number of armed people opened fire on a defense charity outpost in tambon Bang Pu of Yaring area. No injuries were reported, said Pol Col Theerapot Yindee, director of Yaring officers place.
A border police officers outpost in tambon Barahom in the Muang district was likewise attacked fifteen minutes later in front of Wat Ban Dee. The past location was about 300 meters away.
Pol Col Jefferi Saimankul, commander of Muang police station, said one officer, identified as Pol Snr Sgt Maj Bancherd Phutthacharoen, 43, sustained critical gunshot wounds to the head and was rushed to Pattani Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
According to a police exploration, the intruders, armed with military-grade arms, were split into two groups for the problems. Pol Snr Sgt Maj Bancherd was shot during the altercation, and he eventually passed away from his wounds. The military men carried out the attacks for about 20 days before escaping to a nearby bush.
A weapon went off on Thursday at around 5:30 am as defense individuals were clearing the area in Bang Pu. The blast left a huge hole in the wall of the island, but no one was injured.
Authorities said the assailants targeted officials inspecting the page with a homemade bomb they planted near the wall on Tuesday evening.

On Thursday night, assistant provincial government Chaiyaphorn Niyomkaew, deputy chief of the border guard police area 4, Pol Col Prayong Khotsakha, lieutenant Pattani police chief, and lieutenant provincial governor Somchai Srisorayut conducted an inspection of the two outposts.
