According to Benjamin A. Engel, a teacher at Seoul National University, this visit is intended to demonstrate US support and reaffirm US commitment to uphold UN sanctions given the restored cooperation between North Korea and Russia.

Pyongyang’s hands transfers to Russia were also criticized by the G7, which claimed on Wednesday that they had broken UN Security Council resolutions.

Last month, the Kremlin claimed there was” no proof” that North Korea was supplying it with weapons.

As Seoul and Washington intensify their individual defense cooperation, Blinken’s visit may be followed by a trip by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

Less than a week after the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan visited South Korea’s ports, the USB-52 bomber, which is capable of dropping nuclear weapons, made an unusual landing there next month.

According to Leif- Eric Easley, a teacher at Ewha University, Blinken’s journey is “further evidence” of an improved diplomatic alliance. He even cited Seoul and Japan for their growing cooperation.

According to Easley, Washington and Seoul are preparing a multilateral response with Tokyo to Pyongyang’s next provocation in addition to bilateral coordination on North Korea.

Seoul, a significant hands producer, is also anticipated to feel pressure from Washington to do more to aid Ukraine, as the South has long been prohibited from selling arms into active conflict areas.

According to Easley, “upgraded empire assistance must be extremely global in scope as turmoil in the Middle East and Russia’s war in Ukraine resound around the world.”
