Anutin Charnvirakul, the deputy prime minister and internal minister, announced on Friday that he has given Chada Thaiset, his lieutenant, and all provincial governors the task of gathering data on and blacklisting regional officials found to be involved in mafia-style groups.
At a dinner party late on Wednesday night in Nakhon Pathom’s Muang region, where at least 25 other police officers were present, he was responding to another violent incident that resulted in the shooting down of one highway police officer and the injury of another.
Pol Maj Siwakorn Saibua, the Highway Police Sub-division 2 bridge police station 1 commander, was the victim of the crime. The Highway Police Sub-division 2 assistant chief, Pol Lt. Col. Wasin Wanpee, suffered serious injuries.
Early on Friday night, Thananchai Manmak, who was wanted on a jury subpoena for allegedly shooting Pol Maj Siwakorn and injuring politician Lt Col Wasin, was shot and killed in an altercation with police in the Tha Rua city of Kanchanaburi state.
On Thursday evening, soon after an arrest warrant was issued, Praween Chankhlai, also known as Kamnan Nok, the local head and sponsor of the unfortunate dinner party, turned himself in to the Nakhon Pathom police.
According to Pol Lt Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, director of the Central Investigation Bureau, witness informed authorities that Mr. Praween’s request to exchange his nephew, a police officer, was denied.
Chada: Searching for” awful” kamnans
According to Mr. Anutin, citing a statement provided to him by the government of Nakhon Pathom, the kamnan( subdistrict mind ) will be fired from his regional administrative duties and is currently the subject of an investigation into his alleged role in the shooting.
According to Mr. Anutin, the testing and delisting of regional leaders with a background of involvement in mafia-style gangs is now extremely important.
He stated that this type of person shouldn’t be allowed to harm or kill people any longer or become active in society.
According to Mr. Anutin, the Nakhon Pathom tragedy is the ideal illustration of why” bad” local leaders should be put on a blacklist for public safety.
Mr. Anutin also mandated stricter rules to regulate those who are permitted to own or have firearms, claiming that the user is not allowed to carry a firearm around in public whenever he pleases.
There are numerous guidelines that weapon license holders may abide by, he said.
While a fact-finding commission investigated their whereabouts, Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittiprapas ordered the transfer of the 25 police officials seen at the Nakhon Pathom group to passive positions in the Royal Thai Police Operation Centre.
A separate fact-finding investigation was likewise launched by the Metropolitan Police Bureau to determine why the shooter wasn’t apprehended at the scene, where many law officers were present.
While this was going on, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin vowed to make sure the bridge police official who was killed received justice, saying it was startling to learn that the officer had been shot dead because he had refused to assist gangsters in their attempt to thwart a nearby police reshuffle.
According to Mr. Srettha, Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol, the deputy national police chief, is now questioning every police officer present at the Nakhon Pathom dinner party, raising the possibility that the disaster may be connected to reward payments related to lobbying for a campaign in the authorities overhaul.
