BJT member Ekkarat faces expulsion

The Bhumjaithai ( BJT) Party is expected to consider expelling its MP for Khon Kaen Ekkarat Changlao, who was recently spotted at a rival Kla Dharma Party event to establish a branch in the northeastern province.

Bhumjaithai head Anutin Charnvirakul monday said his group members had initiated a request requesting the party to examine Mr Ekkarat’s do and remove him from the party.

Mr Anutin said the group may have premises for an ejection and the information will become discussed.

But, he said, as interior minister, he was busy overseeing reduction work after the disaster and had no idea when the group meeting may be held.

Mr Ekkarat was spotted at the occasion in Khon Kaen on Saturday congratulating his brother, Pitakchon, who was appointed a Kla Dharma unit key.

The event was attended by Kla Dharma stalwarts, including Capt Thamanat Prompow, the group’s chief assistant.

Previously, Mr Ekkarat said he would defect to the Kla Dharma Party should he be expelled from the BJT, noting he would “work more comfortably ]at the new party ]”.

He said he had raised the issue with Mr Anutin, who understood his cause.

Mr Ekkarat said he believed the party would remove him immediately rather than waited for him to leave during the next ballot. The expulsion will allow him to walk to another party and keep his MP position.

He said he foresaw no problems because both the BJT and Kla Dharma events are part of the Pheu Thai-led partnership.

Mr Ekkarat said he mulled over the subject for half a year and chose Kla Dharma because he has near relations with Capt Thamanat.
