Bilkis Bano: Protests in India over release of gang rapists

Protests have been kept across India contrary to the government’s decision in order to free 11 guys who were jailed for a lifetime for the gang rape of a Muslim girl, Bilkis Bano.

Fourteen members of her family were also killed during the religious riots within Gujarat state in 2002.

The particular men were released after serving fifteen years in jail.

Men and women shouted slogans urging the government in order to reverse the decision to produce the rapists.

Indian movie star and can certainly rights campaigner Shabana Azmi told informed AFP news company in the capital Delhi: “What happened along with Bilkis Bano, what happened to her family, all of us cannot stand watching this happen to our country. That is why we will all come together and raise our sounds. ”

“This misogyny and patriarchy has exploded so much and has been normalised to the point that, now rape is normal for people, ” said Aditi, students protester.

Separately, more than 100 retired civil servants published to the chief justice of India to say the rapists’ launch would have a chill impact on the safety of all women.

The decision to free the convicts on fifteen August was announced by the Gujarat federal government as India celebrated its 75th anniversary of independence.

A video that has since long gone viral showed the particular men lined up away from Godhra jail whilst relatives gave them sweets and handled their feet to show respect.

Ms Bano called the decision to free the men “unjust” and said it had “shaken” her faith in justice.
