CHON BURI: A bicyclist died when his great vehicle collided with a van making a U- change and caught flames in Bang Lamung district, near Pattaya, on Sunday night.
At 10.36 p.m., an incident occurred on Highway 36 in tambon Pong close to the 100-kilometer symbol.
A halted First Transport Co., vehicle registered in Bangkok, had a damaged baggage compartment door close to its proper rear wheels, according to a report from the police who were on the scene.
Outside lay a consuming 1000cc Yamaha R1 motorbike. Kritphum Khanthong, 37, was critically injured and unconscious when the lights were extinguished. Attempts to revive him were fruitless.
Another cyclist, Chanin Srichome, 27, said Kritphum was travelling in their party, returning from a weekend getaway. As the vehicle began to make a U-turn and cross in front of him, he struggled to avoid hitting the van.
Van driver Sakrit Mohkae, 35, said his automobile was huge, so he had to make the U- change from the remaining lane. The motorcyclist was traveling in the right lane when the incident occurred, but he had tried to turn into the left lane repeatedly.
