According to Deputy Minister Manaporn Charoensri, the Transport Ministry will conduct a feasibility study on the transfer of the 32-rai Bangkok Port in the Klong Toey region, with portions of the site being converted into a public park.
In her capacity as the Port Authority of Thailand ( PAT ), Ms. Manaporn claimed that Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin suggested moving Klong Toey port to Laem Chabang Port in Chon Buri at the cabinet meeting on April 2. According to his instructions, a council will be established to examine the program.
According to Ms. Manaporn, citing an initial survey conducted by the PAT, there are a number of issues that need to be taken into account, including the remaining license agreements and job deals.
Ms. Manaporn said the whole port would not be relocated in light of concerns about the potential effects on the business companies and oil factories in the area. She claimed that Mr. Srettha had suggested ways to make the most of any leftover area or areas that the group has encroached upon to reduce traffic congestion in the area. She added that some of the room could be converted into a public park.
The top argued that moving some of the port’s development to Laem Chabang Port, explaining that Bangkok Port is subject to restrictions because it is not a deep-sea interface. As for, moving some elements to Laem Chabang would be more practical, she noted.
Additionally, Mr. Srettha also suggested that the government look into the possibility of making the slot a tourist destination.
A master plan for the city’s development, according to PAT director-general Kriangkrai Chaisiriwongsuk, aims to convert the port into a tourist pier with logistics transportation services in order to make it more environmentally friendly.
