Baltimore bridge collapse: Singapore-flagged ship passed foreign port inspections, says MPA

The Singapore-flagged container vessel that slammed into a Baltimore bridge on Tuesday ( Mar 26 ) had passed two foreign port inspections last year, according to the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore ( MPA ).

These were carried out in 2023, in June and September.

” In the June 2023 observation, a faulty screen test for gas pressure was rectified before the vessel departed the port”, MPA stated in a press release, without saying where the checks were conducted.

The vessel, named Dali, was &nbsp, flagged with Singapore in October 2016.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, according to records, confirms that the ship’s required classification culture and legal certificates governing the operation of the vessel’s equipment were true at the time of the incident. &nbsp,

A flag management has the authority to regulate the compliance with technological standards and the applicable regulations.

In June 2024, Dali’s second classification and legal research are scheduled.

Despite determined attempts to stop in time, the cargo ship lost energy and crashed into a help row of the gate.

Two victims were rescued by firefighters.

Six people are missing and presumed dying, according to US officers, all of whom were members of a construction crew that was fixing holes on the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

President Joe Biden referred to the decline as a “terrible incident” and pledged to have the bridge and switch reopened.
