Authorities in Tak’s Mae Sot region have discovered large-scale, allegedly illegal telephone and internet sign transmission cables that were used to provide internet services to call center con gangs operating across Myanmar.
The bust was announced in a statement released by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission ( NBTC ) legal affairs commissioner, Pol Gen Nathathorn Prousoontorn, and the director of Thailand’s Action Taskforce for Information Technology Crime Suppression ( Tactics ), Pol Lt Gen Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, yesterday.
The largest statue of its kind thus far is said to be made by local authorities, who recently discovered 16 high-capacity cables that were used to transport online and phone signals across the borders.
The high-capacity fiber-optic lines spanned deeply within Myanmar country, ending at a significant cross-border economic region known for hosting a large number of scammers, according to an analysis conducted by NBTC specialists.
The crackdown is a result of an ongoing search for illegal wires along the Thai-Myanmar border, according to Pol Gen Nathathorn.
He claimed that the improper use of distribution lines was against Section 67 of the Telecommunications Business Operation Act. Criminals could receive a fine of up to 10 million baht and up to five years in prison.
Law enforcement organizations will continue to collaborate strongly with the NBTC to disassemble and capture illegal transfer products, according to Pol Lt Gen Thatchai.
According to him, officials have also seized over 101, 000 Thai-registered SIM cards, SIM containers and connected devices used for fraudulent activities.
