Singapore charges women who delivered pro-Palestinian letters

Three protesters in Singapore have been accused of organizing rallies to send mails to the prime minister urging him to cut ties with Israel.

Singapore completely imposes demonstrations, and public demonstrations against causes in other nations are prohibited.

The little nation, which has a sizable Muslim populace and maintains a close relationship with Israel, has found the conflict in Gaza to be particularly vulnerable.

Residents have been urged to engage in dialogue and payment drives instead of protesting the situation.

However, the war has raised a lot of questions, and some Singaporeans, especially those who are younger, have been outspoken about posting their opinions electronically and wanting to make their voices heard.

The protesters led about 70 individuals on a kilometer-long move from a well-known store on Singapore’s main shopping streets Orchard Road to the national compound right outside the door in February.

Individuals in the parade are seen carrying tents that appear to be watermelons in photos taken on social media. The grapes, which has the same colors as the Israeli emblem, has become a symbol of unity.

The party made a stop at the compound’s doors, which also house the prime minister’s office, and handed a pile of 140 characters to employees.

Specialists claim that Mossammad Sobikun Nahar, Siti Amirah Mohamed Asrori, and Annamalai Kokila Parvathi, the protesters, had organized the event without a force. The girls have not yet indicated whether they will enter a guilty plea.

The police in Singapore have said they will not give any permits for public assemblies that promote causes in other countries or international entities. They have stated that they will not grant any permits for any of these events.

The three women could be fined up to S$ 10, 000 ( £5, 800,$ 7, 300 ) or jailed for up to six months.

On Thursday when the women were released on bail, they appeared to strike a defiant note through their attire. Ms Amirah wore a shawl resembling the keffiyeh, the traditional Arab headdress that has become a symbol of Palestinian activism, while Ms Annamalai wore a T-shirt with the words “Justice Now!”.

The Transformative Justice Collective, a local advocacy organization that Ms. Annamalai co-founded, described the allegations as” a progression of the harassment of quiet aid for Palestinian life in Singapore.”

Singaporeans are also urged to “break the law to express their views, nor follow the activists in other countries,” according to a statement from the police.

Singapore and Israel have a longer- standing army agreement, which includes arms deal. Israel even helped to build up the South East Asian country’s martial in its early years of independence, and the two countries also cooperate in commercial research, education and business.

However, Singapore has also backed the two-state answer and Palestinians. It has voted in favor of new UN resolutions that call for the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas, as well as previous ones that opposed Israel’s improper settlements.

The government has taken a neutral position since the conflict in Gaza erupted while also making it clear it will not bear anything it considers to be stoking cultural conflicts.

The Jewish ambassador was given the order in March to remove a Twitter post that compared references to Israel and the Palestinian territories from the Quran.

The post, which was described as “insensitive and inappropriate” by laws and home affairs minister K Shanmugam, was “increase conflicts” and put the Jewish neighborhood in Singapore in danger.

North Korea censors sunglasses, weddings and slang – report

A fresh report has revealed that North Korea is systematically cracking down on everything from wedding gowns to language as it attempts to counteract the effect of the South.

Based on the testimony of thousands of sympathizers, the report, which was released by South Korea’s Unification Ministry, is based.

It includes the case of a 22-year-old who was executed after admitting listening to South Korean music and distributing films, first reported by the BBC last year.

North Korea described last week’s report as” libel and fabrication”, but has yet to listen to the new file.

According to the collected records, searches of houses have increased since 2021, with officers looking for signs of outdoor lifestyle, news agency Yonhap reports.

Wearing a white bridal dress or the man lowering the bride on his back are said to be symptoms.

Women’s devices are also being searched and checked for slang from South Korea in texts and emails, it adds.

Glasses have also been deemed booth- revolution, the document says, despite North Korean leader Kim Jong Un being know to lord a piece. His father, however, also labelled certain everyday clothes items as counter- revolutionary- including jeans.

What exactly the punishment is for these crimes is not known.

However, the crackdown on South Korean- made culture appears more severe.

Watching or distributing South Korean entertainment was made death-forbidden by a 2020 law.

A 22-year-old farmer was killed for listening to 70 songs, watching three films, and distributing them, according to a report from this year’s report, which was previously made public by the BBC.

It is believed to be the only instance of an execution being carried out under the “reactionary ideology and culture rejection law” to have recently surfaced.

A video from earlier this year showed two teenagers being sentenced to hard labour for a similar crime.

The South Korean report was released as a result of the nation’s growing hostility toward its neighbors.

Since last month, The North has sent more than 2, 000 garbage-filled balloons across the border, some of which have parasites inside.

Relations between Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin strained even more after their last meeting last week.

It is notable, then, that this is only the second time the report has been released, despite having been compiled annually since 2018.

In order to prevent North Korea from prodding them, they had previously been kept secret.

Singapore an important target for terrorists; recent attacks, arrests in Malaysia a reminder of threat: Shanmugam

SINGAPORE: Singapore remains” a very important target” for terrorists, and the recent attacks and arrests in Malaysia show the need to be “very alert” to such threats, said Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam on Friday ( Jun 28 ).

Whatever happens across the Causeway will have an effect on Singapore, according to Mr. Shanmugam, who addressed the press at the Civil Service Club in Tessensohn Road.

The threat is even greater now that the Islamic State’s ( ISIS ) violent ideology is prevalent in the area, and attackers are able to carry out attacks using readily available weapons, he said.

All does remain alert to any dangers that might happen, he continued, even though there are no specific threats being investigated in Singapore right now. &nbsp,

Mr&nbsp, Shanmugam’s comments come after eight people were arrested last weekend by the Royal Malaysia Police ( PDRM ) for alleged links to the ISIS group.

Continuous operations were carried out across four says, with six people and two girls, aged between 25 and 70, detained.

Studies revealed threats against Malaysia’s King, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, officials and senior officers army officers, Malaysia’s Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said at a media conference on Monday. &nbsp,

REGIONAL Hazard

According to Mr. Shanmugam, the Malaysian Special Branch’s efforts to combat terrorism” considerably reduce the risk to Singapore and the area.”

” Our safety is strongly linked to Malaysia’s safety. Due to proximity, what happens in Malaysia will have an effect on our protection landscape”, he said.

He cited the example of Singapore’s past experience with the Jemaah Islamiah ( JI ) terror group.

Attacks were thwarted by the Internal Security Department ( ISD ) in December 2001 at locations in Singapore, including Yishun MRT Station and crucial military installations like Bukit Gombak’s Ministry of Defense Headquarters. &nbsp,

After the first storm of detention around, JI members regrouped in Malaysia.

” They wanted to plan retaliatory strikes against Singapore”, said Mr Shanmugam. ” We remain a very important goal for extremists”.

According to Mr. Shanmugam, the harsh philosophy of ISIS” continues to appeal in this region, and is fueled by a virtual community of followers.”

” Islamist stories have radicalised many people, including these in Singapore. As long as these beliefs persist, it may continue to inspire assaults”, he said.

The ISD makes standard evaluations on the risk levels in Singapore, said Mr Shanmugam.

What has happened is something that needs to be taken into account ( our assessments ), he said, noting the impact the two recent incidents in Malaysia have had on the threat assessment in Singapore.” We make regular assessments – the ISD makes regular assessments,” he said.

” If you look around the place, ISIS philosophy is common in many countries, and this must be seen in that context”.

Mr Shanmugam also noted that intruders can now use readily available products, such as swords, to carry out attacks. ” We have seen this around the world”, he said, even citing the case of adversaries using cars to work down walkers.

He noted that a knife was used in the next month’s attack at the Ulu Tiram authorities station, another instance of a freely available tool that could be used for such purposes.

After an attack on a police station in Ulu Tiram, on the fringes of Johor Bahru, that left two police officers dead and one injured, Malaysia police made many arrests last month.

A JI associate carried out the harm in the early hours of May 17 and died in the ensuing shootout.

Mr Shanmugam noted that the intruder, 21- year- ancient Radin Luqman, had gone with a case of metal sheets and various objects, like a bulletproof vest across his chest. This meant that the “brazen assault” was good “pre- planned and post- ready”, he said.

The suspect’s father and brother are reported to be ISIS followers and the assault was good ISIS- inspired, said Mr Shanmugam.

Importantly, the father, &nbsp, Radin Imran, was originally associated with the JI party, and is said to have shifted towards supporting ISIS and radicalising his family people, said Mr Shanmugam.

In his home,” Radin Imran” also had four handmade air rifle. He said,” It gives me an idea that the home may have planned to carry out more problems.”

SECURING Asia

Mr Shanmugam said that amid for threats, Singapore adopts measures to ensure its surveillance, particularly as it faces increasing mix- border activity.

” We now have more than 460, 000 visitors crossing every evening between Singapore and Malaysia through the two Bridges, in addition to other types of travel”, he said.

On Friday, the two countries marked the 100th celebration of the Johor- Singapore Causeway, one of the busiest border bridges in the world.

By the end of 2026, the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS ) Link project is scheduled to be finished.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority ( ICA ) conducts checks at the borders, according to Mr. Shanmugam. People sometimes have to accept that this is a safety issue and that the checks are significant.

Singapore also cooperates closely and shares intelligence with a variety of international partners, including the Malaysian Special Branch, which Mr. Shanmugam described as “very important to deal with existing and emerging hazards.”

Mr. Shanmugam noted that the ISD has picked up 50 self-radicalized people since 2015, despite the fact that there are no specific risks being picked up in Singapore right now. According to him, 38 Singaporeans and 12 foreigners have received requests under the Internal Security Act.

” But if we go back, since 2015 – we have a zero- tolerance policy- we move in very early, we do n’t wait for the threat to materialise, or about to materialise, and we do n’t take chances”, said Mr Shanmugam.

He stated that while the policeman, ISD, and other government agencies will do their best to identify and stop terrorist attacks in this area.

” But we need all in world to play their part: To be diligent, to look out for suspicious behavior and activities, take part and register in SGSecure, if you find something, report them to the authorities”, said Mr Shanmugam.

Looking for cheaper mushrooms? You may soon get them from Singapore’s newest farm that taps AI

SINGAPORE: Cheaper, better- quality develop at double the supply – this is what Singapore’s newest fruit farm is looking to obtain with the help of automation and artificial intelligence.

The vertical land plans to meet a third of the local demand for bright button mushrooms from customers, and it wants to set them aside at about S$ 7.50 per pounds, or even lower. This is roughly half the price at the moment.

The land, which will be run by Finc Bio- Tech Mushrooms, is scheduled to become constructed on a land piece about the size of three soccer fields at Sungei Tengah Close.

Next time, it intends to start growing its first crop of vegetables.

” The mushroom industry has been developed ( on ) a scale … that, for example, in China and Japan, at least 70 per cent of mushrooms are now grown in the factory. So we want to use our valuable knowledge to market other markets,” said Bao Shengjie, a representative for Finc Bio-Tech Fruit.

The Shanghai- based company, which claims to be the nation’s largest Shimeji fruit company, has been growing mushrooms for years. It even exports its produce to Singapore.

Finc runs four facilities in China that are powered by large files, AI and robotics, producing roughly 260 kilograms of vegetables – or the mass of 65 elephants – daily.

It will now introduce the first-ever use of similar technologies in Singapore.

BTS agency staff facing insider trading charges

North Korean prosecutors have charged three employees of companies of HYBE, the company that produced the music industry’s K-pop stars Bk, with insider trading.

Before Song people announced they were taking a crack on June 14, 2022, they are accused of selling shares in the company.

The announcement sent HYBE shares plunging 25 % when markets opened, resulting in a loss in market value of nearly 2 trillion won ($ 1.4 billion ).

The three employees allegedly acted without being aware of what was going to happen, avoiding losses ranging from$ 24, 000 to more than$ 108, 000.

Some researchers at the time speculated as to the causes of the break, with some claiming that band members would have to complete South Korea’s mandated 18-month military service.

Since South Korea and North Korea are technically still at conflict, almost all able-bodied men must register for 18 months by the age of 28.

In the years and months that followed, all group members do end up being drafted.

The eldest part of the popular son band, Jin, was let go earlier this month after serving in the military.

The various six- J- Trust, V, RM, Jimin, Jung Kook and Suga- are also serving and the band is expected to return only in June 2025.

Fans of the wildly popular boy band anticipate that Jin’s transfer marks the start of BTS’s comeback.
