Yinxing could trigger flash floods in south: TMD

Flooding in Phuket in September ( photo supplied )

The Thai Meteorological Department ( TMD) issues a warning about heavy downpours in the south on Monday and Tuesday, with a possibility of flash floods, particularly on hillsides and in low-lying areas, as a result of a tropical storm’s impact.

The TMD recently updated the news regarding Tropical Storm Man-Yi and Tropical Storm Toraji, respectively, that are forming in the Pacific Ocean and the lower South China Sea.

It claims that Typhoon Yinxing has winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour south of China’s Hainan Island and travels at a top speed of 167 km/h.

According to the TMD, the tornado is moving northwest at about 15 kilometers per hour and is expected to approach southeastern Hainan and Vietnam’s central coast between Monday and Tuesday.

According to the report, Yinxing will eventually become a tropical storm, a tropical melancholy, and ultimately a powerful low-pressure region. The storms will never achieve Thailand, but tourists are advised to be diligent, it says.

The TMD speculated that although November generally has some storms, La Nia’s unusual weather this year may be causing the trade winds to thicken.

Although the three storms are not anticipated to influence Thailand, the Gulf of Thailand’s residents may experience a rain trough and a mild northeast monsoon.

Jirayu Houngsub, spokeswoman for the Prime Minister’s Office and crisis activity heart, said people in Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani may be sensitive.

The Office of the National Water Resources said there are seven reservoirs in the south already at high capacity, with six medium-sized reservoirs at 80–100 % capacity, including Bang Gam Prad, Bang Wad, Bang Niew Dam and Khlong Kata reservoirs.

With over 30 000 passengers flying regular and more than 30 flights this high time, Phuket Airport has reported a rise in passenger volumes. Ideas are being worked on to add an additional 18 million people to the international terminal.

Monchai Tanod, director of Phuket Airport, provided an update on the airport’s anticipated customer flow during the great time.

He said the airport now takes about 30, 000 international people and 17, 000–19, 000 local people per time.

He claimed that the total number of passengers is largely standard, despite the domestic traveler population being significantly lower than it was before the Covid government.

Phuket’s airports can control up to 600 flights per day, but the number of flights has also dropped to the pre-Covid level. On average, there are only 300 per day flights to Phuket.

More flights from regional and international airports are welcome at the airport.

Beginning next fortnight, Thai AirAsia X will offer an international flight from Phuket to Kazakhstan, which formerly just operated from Don Mueang or Suvarnabhumi Airport.

” Although planes and people from China have not yet completely returned, Phuket Airport’s customer volume is up to pre-Covid amounts this time”, Mr Monchai said.

He claimed that the entire numbers have increased as a result of Russia’s and Europe’s tourist growth.

” By the end of this year, customer figures are expected to reach at least 16 million, with an assumption of at least 18 million future time”, he said.

More than$ 6 billion has been allocated for the expansion of the international terminal in relation to the next stage of the development of Phuket Airport.

It is in the design stage, which may take about a month. After 2026, structure is anticipated to start and get about three years to complete.

In an effort to reduce congestion, this growth will raise the airport’s capacity to 18 million passengers per year.

The director also shared information on the viability study’s research on Phuket’s next airport, which is located in Andaman.

This large-scale job requires an expenditure of over 80 billion ringgit and covers more than 7, 500 ray, with ideas for two airports, he said.

Nikorn pushes referendum trade-off

Offer ground, or disrupt charter bid

Nikorn: Senate support needed
Nikorn: Senate help needed

Nikorn Chamnong, minister to the combined House-Senate commission on the election expenses, on Sunday warned the Pheu Thai Party to bargain on the size of majority needed for a charter referendum to go, or the “people’s charter” might never materialise.

Instead of adhering to simple bulk law, he suggested the group should take into account a half-way plan that is likely to be accepted by alliance partners like his own party and the Bhumjaithai Party.

Mr Nikorn, key planner of the partnership Chartthaipattana Party, said if the House and the Senate fail to reach a conclusion, the election costs will be suspended for 180 days. After that, if the House stands its surface on a simple lot condition, the bill is complete.

However, even if the act is enacted, the mandate update procedure will experience resistance from the Senate, which could rise to engage in the future charter read process, he said.

A law amendment plan requires the assistance of one-third of lawmakers, or 67 votes, to go. ” The Senate’s help is essential. If we do n’t deal, the’ people’s mandate’ did not appear to fruition”, he said.

After Chousak Sirinil, Pheu Thai’s legitimate expert, oppose the half-way proposal and advocate for simple majority rule, he made his remarks.

A simple majority of voting voters, according to the Lower House, would be sufficient to move a constitutional reform vote. The election must go with at least 50 % of registered voters and at least 50 % of those vote must be in favor, according to the Upper House, which means a double lot.

Mr Nikorn has proposed a “one and a half level” lot, anywhere between a plain majority and a double lot. The half-way plan is proposed as a way to resolve disagreements between the senators and the MPs regarding the required bulk for a charter referendum.

The election expenses, endorsed by the House, changed the double-majority concept to make it easier for elections to go. But, when the bill reached the Senate, the Upper House reverted back to the original specifications.

When the expenses returned to the House, the House on Oct 9 voted 348 to zero to accept the Senate’s force to restore the twin lot. In the midst of that choice, a combined House-Senate commission, of which Mr Nikorn is director, was formed to iron out differences between the two Properties.

Govt denies Koh Kut run-ins

” Artificial information” about Cambodian troops conflicts

Koh Kut

The authorities defended reports of Thai soldiers fighting with Vietnamese counterparts as fake news while claiming that the island’s current tourism situation is still favorable.

As the area in Trat state continues to make articles, the number of tourists is actually higher than for the exact time in recent years, said Jirayu Houngsub, an assistant to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, on Sunday.

Koh Kut has been in the news as a result of pressure from some to rekindle discussions with Cambodia over the controversial Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) framework, which opponents fear could lead to Thailand losing territory.

The government is now trying to stop a flurry of false news accounts online that the media seems to have received.

“First of all, there was no such intense security situation between Thailand and Cambodia onKoh Kutas rumoured,” said Mr Jirayu, also spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office. Nor had military forces maintained on the island been reinforced as rumoured. A Cambodian military force was not present on the island either.

“And there has been no exodus ofKoh Kutresidents fleeing the island as rumoured. In reality, a growing number of visitors are queuing up to board a ferry to the island,” said Mr Jirayu. “I would also advise against people falling for the fake news about a skirmish between Thailand and Cambodia erupting on Koh Kut.

“Police have begun taking action against those who have violated the Computer Crime Act by spreading false information aboutKoh Kutonline. It carries a maximum five-year jail term and/or a maximum fine of 100,000 baht,” said Mr Jirayu.

Citing figures supplied by the local Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in Trat, he said reports that hotel and resort bookings have been cancelled following the rumoured security breakdown onKoh Kutwere also untrue.

Korakot Opas, director of the Trat provincial office of the TAT, likewise brushed aside claimsKoh Kuthad reported a 30% hotel cancellation rate.

The occupancy rate onKoh Kutfor November, December and January was 72.4% (35,570 local and international tourists), 74.51% (37,420) and 77.52% (39,810) respectively, based on data compiled from 20 hotels on the island, nine of which are five-star and four-star facilities, he said. Growth in tourist numbers is projected at 1% in this period, he said.

Ms Paetongtarn has tried to create confidence in visitors toKoh Kutthrough explanations from state agencies and by sending key government figures to visit the island, Mr Korakot said. Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will visit the on Monday.

” The Po is focused on creating knowledge based on facts, not reports reports. We will begin a campaign to promote local hospitality.

Following Phumtham Wechayachai’s visit on Saturday, Mr. Anutin’s planned vacation will reaffirm Thailand’s regional authority over the island.

Mr. Phumtham downplayed concerns that the MoU signed during the Thaksin Shinawatra administration could lead to Thailand losing its island and the Gulf of Thailand’s overlapping claims area ( OCA ).

However, Thai Pakdee Party chairman Warong Dechgitvigrom, an opponent of the 2001 MoU, said Mr Phumtham did not need to argue thatKoh Kutbelongs to Thailand, as no one doubts it. But the real question is why the government allowed Cambodia to use the highest mountain peak onKoh Kutas a reference point for drawing its own version of the continental shelf.

He claimed that Cambodia’s version, which also includes Koh Kut, still has the power to make 26, 000 square kilometers of coastal locations in the Gulf of Thailand an OCA in the 2001 MoU.
