Australian striker Sam Kerr to miss Olympics

Sam Kerr

Sam Kerr, an ACL pull sufferer, has been formally declared out of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

During a Chelsea training camp in January, the scorer suffered injuries.

Announcing a crew for Australia’s last post- Olympics friendlies, the Matildas ‘ coach said Kerr may no return in time for the Games in July.

Kerr- undoubtedly Australia’s biggest sporting hero- is the world’s all- period record goal scorer.

Leah Williamson and Vivianne Miedema, both of whom are England captains, are just two of the high-profile woman players to have an ACL injuries. Skilled players typically recover from surgery in at least nine times.

The Matildas have endured a terrible run-up to the Olympics, with several of their key players having to be sidelined by injuries.

Important players in midfield, including Aivi Luik and Clare Hunt, have been unable to play due to a base bone, and Katrina Gorry has had hip surgery. Amy Sayer, a fresh winger, tore her ACL last month, and will miss the Olympics.

In preparation for the send-off matches against China, Matildas mentor Tony Gustavsson stated that the choice for the Olympic club of 18 gamers had become a complex formula, with some hopefuls racing against time to make their return to the field.

He said,” This screen will be difficult for me and my staff to use to evaluate players, their situation, and then the Parisian final selection process.”

After just missing the floor at both the earlier Olympics in Tokyo and the World Cup in Australia last month, Kerr was anticipated to play a significant role in the Matildas prize strategy in Paris.

During her time at Chelsea, Kerr has won four Children’s Super League names, three FA Cups, two Children’s League Cups and the Women’s Community Shield.

She has won the Ballon d’Or Féminin, the top award in women’s sport, every year since its founding in 2018, and has scored 64 targets for Australia and has scored 99 targets for Chelsea.

But it has been a difficult 12 months for Kerr. She spent much of the home World Cup on the bench with a calf strain, and – shortly after her ACL injury – was in January charged with racially aggravated harassment of a London police officer, to which she has pleaded not guilty.
