Australian rape suspect arrested on Koh Phangan

62-year-old may be deported to face numerous charges in home state

A 62-year-old American male has been detained in Koh Phangan in connection with 15 rape and sexual abuse cases in his state, according to SURAT THANI.

Helio Taiyang Richardson was detained by police on Thursday at a hotel on the holiday island after receiving an Interpol red observe for him.

In Australia, Mr. Richardson is accused of various sexual assaults and murders dating again to 2017. He is also alleged to have committed 15 rapes and assaults.

He was reported to have entered Thailand on June 16 with a holiday card that he had renewed for another 30 days but which expired on August 15. He even requested a retirement immigration, but Immigration Police put that request on hold after receiving the Interpol red see.

Mr Richardson will been deported to Australia for trial, authorities said.
