Though the planners did not cite a reason for calling off the festival, various media reports citing business and festival sources said the cancellation was due to a latest interpretation of Georgia’s gun law, which permits firearms in public spaces, including parks.
Weapons and explosives associated with any kind are restricted at the festival, based on its website. Gun rights advocates experienced mounted a stress campaign against that will position, calling directly into question the festival’s ability to restrict firearms since Georgia allows guns to be transported in parks.
Sources with knowledge of the cancellation decision by owner Live Nation who also spoke to Rolling Stone cited Atlanta gun laws since the reason.
Georgia Gun supporter Phil Evans told CNN he emailed festival organizers in May, apprising them of Georgia gun laws and regulations and a Georgia Great court case coping with guns in which he or she was a party. “We were looking forward to reuniting in September and hope we can all return to enjoying the event together again shortly, ” the coordinators said.
