At least 30 killed after mass shooting at childcare centre in northern Thailand

BANGKOK: At least 30 people were killed, including children, after a mass shooting at a childcare centre in Thailand’s northeastern Nong Bua Lam Phu province on Thursday (Oct 6).

Police identified the gunman as 34-year-old Panya Kamrab. He fled the scene in a white pick-up truck, sparking a manhunt.

According to the Central Investigation Bureau, the gunman has killed himself, his wife and his child.

Police colonel Jakkapat Vijitraithaya from Nong Bua Lam Phu province said there were 23 child victims and the attacker is a former policeman.

Mass shootings are rare but in 2020, a soldier angry over a property deal gone sour killed at least 29 people and wounded 57 in a rampage that spanned four locations.
