At least 12 dead in Indonesia bus crash after brakes apparently failed: Police

At least 12 people were killed and others were hurt when a vehicle carrying 34 people sped out of control on a downhill path in Indonesia’s West Sumatra state on Tuesday ( May 6), according to police in Padang.

The inter-province van was traveling from Medan in North Sumatra territory to Jakarta, Indonesia, when its brake appeared to be malfunctioning near a van switch in West Sumatra’s Padang area, according to Reza Chairul Akbar Sidiq, the head of the West Sumatra traffic officers.

He claimed that the cause of the accident was still being looked into by authorities, but victims reported to authorities that the driver lost control of the car in a padang neighborhood with steep hills and brake malfunctions.

The 12 systems, including two children’s body, were primarily pinned underneath the overturned vehicle, according to Sidiq. 23 injured individuals included all the victims, according to him, were taken to two local hospitals.

Thirteen of the injured were receiving medical attention for severe injury, according to Sidiq. Among the injured was the vehicle.
