ASEAN must grow with less emissions, look to external partners to finance regional power grid: PM Wong

“ Unfortunately, there has been no political progress and in fact the fighting in Myanmar has worsened, ” said Mr Wong.

Noting that the issue is really a regional position, he said: “We have to be realistic about what ASEAN you do, and at the same time, patient and resolute in pursuing efforts towards peaceful solution. ”

He said the rest of ASEAN never manage to get back to business as usual with Myanmar and should maintain its jobs towards the region, especially on its non-political representation at conferences and foreign ministers ’ meetings.

Mr Wong said that moving forwards, ASEAN needs to properly combine Timor-Leste, and completely support its attempts to satisfy a strategy that had been agreed for its arrival to the union.

FIRST ASEAN SUMMIT

Mr Wong, who became prime minister in May, thanked his fellow leaders for a warm pleasant to his first ASEAN conference.

“ASEAN has been vital to the peace, security, and development of our place. But ASEAN will be a cornerstone of Singapore’s international policy, ” he said.

He said the alliance needs to maintain continued peace and stability in the region, by continuing to keep the layout of the area open and inclusive and to employ all outside events.

“Our companions must commit to equality, appreciation for international law, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, ” added Mr Wong.

The beginning meeting of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits took place on Wednesday at the National Convention Centre in the Burmese money.

Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and President Thongloun Sisoulith gave remarks during the meeting. Participants were treated to dancing performances, and South Asian leaders also took the traditional party picture on stage.
