SINGAPORE: Over the past five years, Ong Ye Kung, the minister of health, announced on Monday( Jul 3 ), that approximately 1,200 foreign healthcare workers have received Permanent Resident ( PR ) status on average annually.
According to him in a written response to an political issue, more than six out of ten were caregivers, while the remaining group included physicians, allied health professionals, and other health care workers.
Tan Wu Meng( PAP – Jurong ), a member of parliament, had questioned Mr. Ong about the number of foreign healthcare workers who had been granted PR status in Singapore as well as whether it would be possible to do so more quickly if they had supported Singapore and Singaporeans during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the previous year, more foreign nurses received PR position” in acknowledgment of the crucial role they played in fighting the COVID – 19 crisis” and in assisting Singapore’s expanding healthcare needs ,” according to Mr. Ong.
He added that” they serve people alongside each other and go through problems up” and that Singapore’s care workforce is made up of a sizable majority of Singaporeans and foreign men from many different nations.
” European healthcare workers are a crucial component of our healthcare system, and we have been and are ready to grant them PR rank for those who grow to be respected associates and show commitment to Singapore.”
